Grizzlies Pull Away from Seward After Big Second Half
EL DORADO, Kan. – No. 2 Butler extended its winning streak to 15 games on Saturday afternoon, using an enormous third quarter to defeat Seward County at the Power Plant.
EL DORADO, Kan. – No. 2 Butler defeated Seward County after an enormous third quarter to win 15th straight.
The Butler Grizzlies (24-1, 18-1 KJCCC) used a big third quarter in the win over Seward (17-9, 12-8) at the Power Plant on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies remain in first place in the Jayhawk Conference with the win.
After a tightly contested first quarter, the Grizzlies led by 13 in the second quarter with five and a half minutes to go in the half. Seward would proceed to end the half on a 13-4 run, with the Grizzlies leading 41-37 at the break.
The Grizzlies responded immediately by scoring 11 unanswered to begin the second half, extending their lead to 52-37. Butler would end up leading Seward 69-47 after three, and took their biggest lead of the day, 28, in the fourth quarter.
Keegan Yarick had a career day, scoring a career high 29 points on 10 of 15 shooting. Yarick also contributed with four rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Two Grizzlies' recorded double-doubles, with freshman Aliyah Green scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards. Mya Mayberry finished with 10 points and a career high 10 assists.
Butler shot an efficient 50.8 percent from the field, and Seward was held to 40.4 percent. The Grizzlies outrebounded Seward 36-30 on the glass and had 25 assists on 33 made baskets.
