The Butler Volleyball team fell behind early and couldn't recover and was handed their first conference loss of the season at Johnson County. Johnson jumped out to an early lead and won the first set 25-14, the Grizzlies had a better second set but still fell in a close one 25-23, before dropping the final set 25-18.
Jessi Green and Kailan Kuzmic led the Grizzlies offensively, Green with 22 kills and eight digs and Kuzmic finished with 20 kills and 12 digs of her own. Four other Grizzlies had double digit kills and defensively Jessica Schwartz led the way with 16 digs while Mary Kangas had 14 assists to go along with 12 digs.
The Grizzlies fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play and will play next on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7 in the Central Nebraska Invitational where they will have matches against Casper College, Marshalltown (Iowa), Central Nebraska, and Southeast Community College.
