MELBOURNE, Fla. — The No. 11 Butler Grizzlies lost their third game of the season to No. 14 Eastern Florida State on Monday morning.
Butler could not overcome three second half Eastern Florida State goals on Monday, as the Grizzlies dropped their third straight game to a ranked opponent.
The Grizzlies Tyesha Nelson scored the first goal of the game (assisted by Amiyah Hamilton-Thompson), giving a 1-0 advantage over Eastern Florida State with 16 minutes and 25 seconds to go in the first half. Two minutes later, Hamilton-Thompson scored the second goal of the game (assisted by Heide Bartel) to put the Grizzlies up 2-0 in the first half. With 7:20 to go in the first half, Eastern Florida State's Maja Lund scored a goal to cut the Grizzlies lead 2-1. Butler led 2-1 going into intermission.
The second half was a different story, as the Grizzlies were shut out in the second half and allowed three Eastern Florida State second half goals. The Titans won the contest 4-2, causing the Grizzlies to lose their last three games, all to ranked opponents.
Butler finished the game with 6 shots on goal, three of them from Tyesha Nelson. London Ingram added 2 shots and 1 shot on goal for the Grizzlies.
Next Up: The Grizzlies will travel to Council Bluffs, IA to take on the No. 10 ranked Iowa Western Reivers at 5 p.m. on Friday.
