The seventh ranked Butler Grizzlies opened up conference play with a dominant performance away from home in Chanute, responding to their first loss of the year in their previous game by pasting Neosho, defeating the Panthers, 4-0 on Wednesday.
Brooke Sullivan opened up the scoring as she converted a penalty kick eight minutes into the game. Kenzee Godwin doubled the Grizzlies' first half lead, notching her fifth goal from a corner in the 25th minute, assisted by Madeline Boman and Brooklyn Hunter to give the Grizzlies the two goal lead going into the halftime interval.
Boman would score a goal of her own in the 65th minute to open the second half, heading in off a perfect corner from Brooklyn Hunter, her second assist of the match.
Kaitlin Erwin put the finishing touches on the victory 14 minutes later off a pass from Godwin, cementing the victory.
Ashton Conley and Carla Apodaca split goalkeeping duties in the game, combining for the shutout, as the Butler defense allowed zero goals and only two shots in what was a total team victory.
Butler improves to 4-1 on the year and opens up Jayhawk play with a 1-0 record. The Grizzlies return home this weekend with a pair of non-conference games, hosting No. 3 Seminole State on Friday before seeing No. 14 Laramie County on Sunday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
