Butler Softball Takes Down Hutchinson and Dodge City, Advances to Region 6 Title Game

The Grizzlies defeated No. 1 seed Hutchinson and avenged their Friday loss to Dodge City to lift them into the NJCAA Plains District Championship game. Butler will face Dodge City again on Monday at 12 p.m.
Game 1 (7 inn.) – Butler 3, Hutchinson 2
The Grizzlies scored the first three runs of the game through five innings, while Hutchinson put up a run in each the fifth and seventh innings but ultimately fell short and potentially ending their season.
DeShawnna Bryant scored the first run of the game in the top half of the second after Emillee Stofferahn's RBI sacrifice fly.
In the top half of the third, the Grizzlies got their second run after Lizzy Lassley hit an RBI double, scoring Haely Hagemann.
The Grizzlies scored their final run in the top half of the fifth after Addison Chapman scored Hagemann again off of an RBI single. Hutchinson managed to put up two runs in the fifth and seventh, but Hutchinson lined out for the third out of the inning, ending the game.
Addison Chapman threw all seven innings for the Grizzlies, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters. The win for Chapman was her 16th on the season.
Game 2 (7 inn.) – Butler 3, Dodge City 2
After losing to Dodge City on Friday 3-2 in a heart breaker, the Grizzlies looked for redemption on Sunday. Both teams each scored their first runs of the game in the third, going to the fourth tied at 1 apiece.
Dodge City regained the lead in the fourth after an RBI single from Harley Shoaf, taking a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, Emillee Stofferahn launched a ball to deep left centerfield for a solo home run, tying the game back up at 2-2.
In the top of the sixth, with two outs and a runner on third, Dodge City hit a ball to deep centerfield and Grizzly centerfielder Addison Chapman made an unbelievable diving catch, a play that sparked the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies put the game to bed in the bottom of the seventh as Stofferahn came up big again, hitting a ball to deep centerfield to score Jessica Sandell and to walk off Dodge City 3-2.

Grizzlies and Dodge City will face off again tomorrow at noon, with the winner claiming the Region 6 Tournament title.

Chapman started in the circle for the Grizzlies and threw four innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Dodge City transfer Anistyn Marcotte came in for relief came up big against her former team. Marcotte threw the final three innings and allowed three hits and zero runs to earn her 10th win on the season.
Next up: Butler and Dodge City will face again for a third time in the tournament tomorrow at 12 p.m. with the winner taking the NJCAA Plains District crown and an automatic bid to the NJCAA World Series in Oxford, Alabama.
