Grizzlies Win Extra‑Inning Thriller on Day Doug Chance Field Is Unveiled
EL DORADO, Kan. – On a day dedicated to honoring legendary coach Doug Chance, Butler Softball delivered a finish worthy of his legacy, walking off Hutchinson 10–9 in a 10‑inning classic to split Saturday’s doubleheader at newly named Doug Chance Field.

EL DORADO, Kan. – On a day dedicated to honoring legendary coach Doug Chance, Butler Softball delivered a finish worthy of his legacy, walking off Hutchinson 10–9 in a 10‑inning classic to split Saturday's doubleheader at newly named Doug Chance Field.
Game 1 (7 inn.) – Hutchinson 7, Butler 3
Before the start of the doubleheader, Butler Athletics honored former Butler Softball Head Coach Doug Chance with the unveiling of Doug Chance Field. Chance was the head man for the Grizzlies for 18 seasons and led Butler to back-to-back NJCAA National Championships in 2016 & 2017, further cementing his legacy at Butler.
After Lizzy Lassley hit a solo homer in the bottom half of the first inning, Hutchinson scored five runs in the third, and the Grizzlies followed that with RBI singles from Emillee Stofferahn and Addison Chapman, cutting the Blue Dragon lead to 5-3.
The Grizzlies failed to score another run, as Hutchinson scored a run in the 5th and 6th to seal the 7-3 game one victory.
Addison Chapman (L, 3-3) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Chapman threw 3.2 innings and allowed four hits, three runs (two earned), walked three batters and struck out one.
Game 2 (10 inn.) – Butler 10, Hutchinson 9
Game 2 of the doubleheader was an all-time classic, as it saw the Grizzlies defeating Hutchinson 10-9 in 10 innings.
Butler led 7-3 heading into the 6th, but Hutchinson came all the way back with a solo homer in the 6th and scored three more runs in the 7th to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
After trading runs in the 9th and 10th innings, DeShawnna Bryant walked it off with an RBI single, scoring Emillee Stofferahn to give the Grizzlies their first win over Hutchinson this season.
The Grizzlies amassed 18 hits on 44 at bats, to Hutchinson's 15 hits on 48 at bats. Haely Hagemann went 2-5, scored two runs, two RBIs, and had one double. Bryant finished 3-6 and had 2 RBIs. Kyplee Jacobson went 3-4 and scored two runs and had one RBI, while Kate Free went a perfect 4-4 with a double, one run and one RBI.
Anistyn Marcotte started in the circle for the Grizzlies and threw six innings while giving up nine hits, five earned runs and struck out three batters. Addison Chapman (W, 4-3) earned the win. Chapman threw four innings and allowed six hits, three runs (one earned) and struck out six.
Next up: The Grizzlies will host Labette on Tuesday from Doug Chance Field at 2 and 4 p.m.
