Butler Softball Secures No. 9 Seed in NJCAA Division 1 World Series
Grizzlies to Open Tournament in Yuma on Monday Taking on Paris (TX)
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Butler Community College softball team earned the No. 9 national seed in the upcoming 2025 NJCAA Division 1 Softball World Series this afternoon as the NJCAA released the 20-team bracket.
The Grizzlies will travel to Yuma, Ariz., to compete in the double-elimination tournament that gets underway on Monday, May 19th, and runs through Saturday, May 24th at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.
Ninth-seeded Butler (44-7) will take on the eighth-seeded Paris Junior College Dragons (50-9) on Monday at 3:30 MST (5:30 CST) in the second round of play. The game will be streamed on the NJCAA Network, (Pay-per-view).
16-seed McCook and 17-seed Crowder play on Monday and the winner advances to play number one overall seed Florida SouthWestern State College on Tuesday. The winner of that contest will play the winner of Butler and Paris on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. MST. The loser of Butler and Paris plays the loser of two-seed McLennan and 15-seed Lake Land or 18-seed Rose State at 5:45 p.m. MST on Tuesday.

Butler and Paris met once this season on February 15th with the then 14th-ranked Grizzlies mounting an impressive comeback scoring five seventh inning runs to win 14-12 over the 16th ranked Dragons in Denison, Texas.
The Grizzlies are making the program's 14th appearance in the NJCAA Division 1 World Series, all coming since 2007 as Butler has appeared in 14 of the last 18 (no postseason in 2020 due to covid-19).
Butler is the lone representative from the state of Kansas in the tournament. The Grizzlies have played three total games vs. other World Series participants, going 2-1 with a win over Paris and a doubleheader split with 17th seed Crowder College on the road (March 17th).
Head coach Morgan Bohanan is leading the Grizzlies to their second appearance in the World Series in her three years at the helm of the program. She holds a 137-29 (.825) overall record.
Butler won a share of the 2025 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference regular season championship (19th in program history) and went on to win the Plains District/NJCAA Region 6 Tournament (14th in program history) held in Dodge City, Kan., from May 2nd through May 5th.
Florida SouthWestern State College is the No. 1 overall seed. McLennan Community College is No. 2 followed by Northwest Florida State College, Grayson College and Chattanooga State Community College to round out the top-five seeds.
Butler enters the World Series the winners of 30 of their last 32 games. The Grizzlies dropped back-to-back games just once this season.
