Kotambe Wins 800 Meter, Grizzlies Wrap Up Track & Field Season at NJCAA Outdoor Championships
HOBBS, N.M. – Sophomore Amanda Kotambe captured the national title in the 800 meter run over the weekend, highlighting Butler’s final day at the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The Grizzlies closed out their season on Saturday with the men finishing 11th and the women placing 12th overall. The men totaled 32 points, while the women collected 26. Host New Mexico Junior College swept both team titles, with the women scoring 107.50 points and the men finishing with 97.

Kotambe won the 800 meters in 2:10.51, edging Indian Hills' Cindy Rose (2:13.93). Butler also placed two more athletes in the top seven: Terrica Clarke finished third in 2:15.43, and La Tanya Johnson placed seventh in 2:18.24. Kotambe added another podium finish with a third‑place showing in the 1500 meters (4:38.58).
The women's 4x800 relay team of Johnson, Alia Sanchez, Clarke, and Kotambe finished seventh with a time of 9:24.39.
On the men's side, Kamohelo Ramatsebe earned national runner‑up honors in the steeplechase, running 9:18.19, just behind Cowley's Esteban Boisseau (9:17.97). Ramatsebe also placed seventh in the 1500 meters (4:04.80).
Butler posted two top‑four finishes in the 10,000 meters, with Itumeleng Ngxabazi taking second (31:20.64) and Sfiso Makolomakwa finishing fourth (31:27.37). In the 5,000 meters, Makolomakwa placed fifth (15:08.94) and Ngxabazi followed in sixth (15:13.09).
The men's 4x800 relay team—Ramatsebe, Makolomakwa, Isaiah Smith, and Ngxabazi—finished eighth in 7:33.13.
Freshman Harrison Swallow rounded out Butler's scoring with an eighth‑place finish in the shot put, throwing 15.82 meters.
