What a season it was for Butler true freshman Tristan Hankins. Hankins, an Idabel, Oklahoma native, averaged 18.5 points per game on 47.1 percent shooting and 38 percent from three and contributed with 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game on the season. Hankins becomes the first Grizzly since 2010 to earn NJCAA All-American honors (Caleb Walker, 2010) and the 14th overall.
Hankins was also named the Region 6 Tournament MVP after scoring 35 points in the Region 6 title game over Barton. The Grizzlies earned the No. 8 overall seed in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament and a first round bye. In the Grizzlies second round matchup vs No. 9 Snow, Hankins scored 21 points, recorded 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals and one block. In the quarterfinal round against No. 1 overall seed and eventual national champion Howard, Hankins scored 27 points in Butler's 134-128 double-overtime loss. Hankins was then named to the NJCAA National Tournament Team.
