The Grizzlies (10-5, 6-3) entered the matchup looking to return to the win column after dropping consecutive games for the first time this season. Cowley (10-5, 5-4) was also trying to halt a two‑game skid.
Butler opened the game strong, jumping out to an 11–4 lead before Cowley trimmed the margin to 20–18 by the under‑12 timeout. The Grizzlies responded with a 13–4 run to push the lead back to double digits, going up 33–22 with 7:51 left in the half. Butler carried a 49–36 lead into the break. Cowley shot an efficient 51.7 percent from the field in the first half but went just 2-for-10 from three. Butler shot 47.1 percent and knocked down 7-of-17 from deep while converting 10-of-15 free throws. Cowley went 4-of-12 at the line.
Cowley quickly cut Butler's lead to 51–47 early in the second half, but the Grizzlies regained control by forcing turnovers and consistently getting to the free‑throw line. Butler hit 17-of-19 free throws in the second half, helping secure the win and handing Cowley its third straight loss.
The Grizzlies shot 42.4 percent from the field compared to Cowley's 43.5 percent. Butler went 13-of-32 from three, while Cowley finished 5-of-20. The Grizzlies capitalized at the line, going 27-of-34 (79.4 percent). Butler also outrebounded Cowley 41–30 and recorded 21 assists.
Five Grizzlies scored in double figures. Freshman Tristan Hankins led the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three, and added 13 rebounds for a double‑double. Jaise Combs scored 18 points on 4-of-8 shooting from deep. Devin Kerr added 15, Xavier Brown had 14, and AJ Pierre‑Jerome finished with 10 points, going a perfect 10-for-10 at the free‑throw line.
Next up: Butler hosts another ranked opponent on Saturday when No. 19 Dodge City comes to town following a 92–83 win over Garden City. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Power Plant in El Dorado.
