Austin Roberts begins his first season on the Butler football staff leading the defensive ends ahead of the 2024 season.

Roberts holds Jayhawk Conference coaching experience as well as playing experience at the NJCAA and NCAA Power 5 levels.

His previous stop before Butler was Coffeyville CC where he was the defensive line coach during the 2021 season. He helped the Red Ravens win the 2021 KJCCC regular season title and mentored multiple defensive linemen that earned all-conference honors. Roberts ran the offensive scout team in practice that prepared the defense and helped coach eight student-athletes that held multiple NCAA D1 offers.

Roberts broke into coaching at Highland Community College from 2018-19. The 2018 season saw him oversee the linebackers where he coached two of the top three tacklers in the KJCCC, Reco Hannah (63 tackles) and Donnell Lowery (68 tackles). Roberts also served as recruiting coordinator. 2019 saw Roberts slide down to coach defensive ends, also helping in defensive game planning. He helped coach two defensive lineman that signed with NCAA D1 programs in Travis Geiger (Coastal Carolina) and Dre Jones (Abilene Christian). The Scotties also knocked off the No. 1 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons in 2019.

Roberts’ collegiate playing career began at East Mississippi CC in 2013 as he helped the Lions claim the 2013 NJCAA National Championship, defeating Georgia Military 52-32. He finished with 22.0 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a freshman defensive end. Roberts then transferred to NEO A&M in 2014 where he posted 40 tackles and 4.0 sacks and was ultimately tagged as a three-star recruit by ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports.com before signing to play with the University of Oklahoma as a defensive end.

He played two seasons for the Sooners in Norman and in 2016 he started 10 games at defensive end, helping the Sooners to a Sugar Bowl victory over Auburn and an 11-2 season. For his career as a Sooner, Roberts tallied 40 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and two pass breakups. OU won the Big 12 title both seasons Roberts was in Norman.

A graduate of Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree in African Cultural Relations from the University of Oklahoma in 2018.
