Butler Baseball Suffers Doubleheader Sweep to No. 5 Cloud

CONCORDIA, Kan. – The Butler Grizzlies dropped games 3 & 4 of their series to No. 5 Cloud County from Lee Doyen Field.
Game 1 (7 inn.) – No. 5 Cloud 8, Butler 1
The Grizzlies (21-18, 11-9 KJCCC) were outmatched by the No. 5 team in the country Cloud County (37-4, 21-3) on Saturday and Sunday.
Butler fell to Cloud 8-1 in game three of the four game series. The Grizzlies were held to only five hits in 25 at bats and struck out 12 times. Cloud amassed eight hits in 25 at bats in the win.
Cloud scored the first eight runs of the contest. Butler finally got on the board in the top half of the 6th after a RBI single from Danny Wideman scored Yusei Uzawa. The Grizzlies got two runners on base in the 7th but weren't able to score any more runs, falling to Cloud 8-1 in seven innings.
Wideman led the Grizzlies with two hits, going 2-3 with one RBI.
Whitley Rhodes (L, 3-2) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Rhodes threw 3.2 innings and allowed eight hits and eight earned runs. Cooper Annin threw 2.1 innings and allowed 0 hits and 0 runs and struck out three batters.
Game 2 (9 inn.) – No. 5 Cloud 16, Butler 9
The Grizzlies led Cloud 2-1 in the second inning, but due to weather delays, the rest of the game was played on Sunday.
Butler then led 5-3 going into the bottom half of the 5th, but Cloud got their bats going, scoring four runs in the 5th, three in the 7th, and six in 8th.
The Grizzlies managed 11 hits in 34 at bats, while Cloud had 19 hits in 39 at bats. Amarion Sailer had two hits, going 2-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Holden Lough recorded two hits in four at bats. Jackson Ellison and Kaden Gomez-Gordon each had one home run in the contest.
Connor Robinson (L, 2-2) suffered his second loss on the mound this season. Robinson threw 3.1 innings and allowed seven hits, six earned runs, but had four strikeouts against 18 batters faced.
Next up: Butler will be on the road on Tuesday to face the Allen County Red Devils at 1 p.m.
