Bio
Damien Akao is in his first year as the Athletics Academic Coordinator.
Most recently, Akao spent time as the Assistant Director of Coaching at Southwestern College Professional Studies, where he was an advisor for 300+ students. At Southwestern College, he provided academic advising and support to a diverse student population, helping them develop educational plans aligned with their goals for graduation, transfer, and career success.
Prior to Southwestern College, Akao received is master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Newman University (2020). He also received his bachelor’s degree in Sports Communication from Newman University in 2018. Akao was a member of the men’s basketball team at Newman University from 2016-2018.
Prior to Newman, Akao received an associates degree from Butler Community College and was a member of the men’s basketball team from 2013-2016.
Akao and his wife, Vy, reside in Wichita.
