Hanks Promoted to Associate Athletic Director
EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler Community College Athletic Director Mike Helmer announced the elevation of Garrett Hanks to the position of Associate Athletic Director & Compliance Officer on Wednesday afternoon.

"Garrett has been an invaluable member of our department and has embraced every opportunity to serve Butler Athletics," Helmer said. "He has earned the respect of our coaches, staff and student-athletes through his professionalism and dedication. We're excited to see him take on additional leadership responsibilities in this new role."
Hanks, an El Dorado native, spent the past year as the Director of Sports Information and Operations for Butler Athletics. In this role, Hanks served as the media contact for all Grizzly sport programs. He oversaw all Butler Athletics social media accounts, managed the athletics website, wrote press releases, oversaw statistics, and managed game-day operations for Butler home athletic events.

"Butler is a special place, and the past six years have played a significant role in shaping who I am today. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the athletic department and am excited to step into this new role."
During his tenure as SID, he oversaw substantial growth across Butler Athletics' social media platforms, increasing the Instagram account to more than 10,000 followers, Facebook to more than 13,000 and X to more than 18,000.
Before becoming SID, Hanks served in the athletic department as an athletics assistant, focusing on compliance and game-day operations. Before that, Hanks worked as the Live Production and Streaming Media Coordinator for BCTV, producing and directing live streams for Butler athletic events.
Hanks graduated from Wichita State University in 2025 with a master's degree in sport management. He received his bachelor's degree in sport management from Wichita State in 2024 with a minor in workforce leadership. Hanks began his academic career at Butler Community College, where he received his associate's degree in business administration and accounting in 2022.
