Former Butler cross country standout Marcos Bailon is back with the program, serving as the interim head cross country coach for the 2013 season.
Bailon recently finished his collegiate running career at Wichita State. He posted his names several times among the top of the Shocker record books both in cross country and in track. As a senior in the spring of 2013, he ran the eighth-fastest 10k in WSU history in 30:36.74 and finished eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference meet in the 5k at the outdoor meet. He was also named a MVC Scholar-Athlete.
Bailon ran his sophomore season at Butler Community College. He attended Alhambra High School in Arizona, where he was the runner-up in the Arizona 5A Division One 3,200 meter race at the state track meet. He finished sixth individually at the cross country state championships.
Bailon was born Feb. 15, 1990 in Los Angeles, Calif. His wife, Elida, is also a former Butler distance running standout. She is competing for Wichita State as a senior. They live in Wichita.
