COLBY, Kan. - The Butler women closed out the 2015 calendar year with a convincing road win 84-38 over Colby on Wednesday night.
Defense was the key in the victory as Butler took a 45-18 lead into the halftime intermission while holding the Trojans to 17 percent shooting from the floor, including 0-for-11 from long range.
The start of the second half was more of the same as the Grizzlies held the Trojans to just five points in the entire third period.
Butler (12-3 overall, 2-2 conference) had four players score in double figures, with freshman Nakylia Carter leading the way with 19 points and a game-high five steals. Fellow freshman Kyeria Hannah finished with a double-double recording 11 point and 10 rebounds, while Raven Prince and Hayley Leeper added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Alecia Gulledge pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds to led the Grizzlies.
Butler outrebounded the Trojans 73-40 for the game including 25 offensive rebounds. The Grizzlies also shot 10 more free throws then the Trojans (33-to-23).
Next up the Grizzlies will ring in the new year with a conference tilt with Cloud County inside the Power Plant on Saturday, Jan. 2 with a 2 p.m. start time.
