Byron Williams is in his first season on the Butler football coaching staff, where he will serve as the wide receivers coach.
Williams comes to Butler after coaching defensive backs the last five seasons coaching high school football in Texas. Most recently, Williams served as the cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator at Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
In 2011, Williams was a defensive intern for the Kansas City Chiefs training camp and preseason as part of the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship.
Williams spent two seasons on the staff at Texas A&M-Commerce, working as the cornerbacks and strength coach (2010) and the assistant secondary coach (2009).
During the 2008 season, Williams was the cornerbacks coach at East Texas Baptist. He spent the previous two years as a high school coach in the Denton, Texas area.
A native of Dallas, Williams played collegiately at the University of Minnesota (2003-04) under then head coach Glen Mason. He helped the Golden Gophers to a 31-30 victory over Oregon in the 2003 Sun Bowl.
Before joining the Golden Gophers, Williams spent the 2001 season at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College. After spending the 2002 spring season at Garden City CC with current Butler head coach Tim Schaffner, he followed Schaffner to Ranger (Texas) CC for the fall of 2002.
Williams is a graduate of Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas and served in the United States Navy (1997-2001) before resuming his football career.
