After a 40-7 win Saturday over then-No. 13 Iowa Western, Butler football moved up two spots to eighth in this week's NJCAA Top 20 poll.
The Grizzlies (2-0 overall, 1-0 KJCCC) received 95 votes and are just one point behind two-time defending champion East Mississippi, who dropped from first to seventh after having a 25-game winning snapped by Copiah-Lincoln (MS).
For the second straight week, Butler is one of three KJCCC teams ranked in the top 10. Hutchinson (2-0, 1-0) moved up one spot to third, while Coffeyville (2-0, 0-0) jumped two spots to fourth. After receiving votes last week, Dodge City (2-0, 1-0) moved into the rankings at 20th, giving the KJCCC a total of four ranked this week.
Having knocked off previous-No. 1 East Mississippi, Copiah-Lincoln moved into the top spot with six first-place votes and 138 total votes. Ranked second is Nassau (N.Y.) who collected three first-place votes and 135 total. Hutchinson, Coffeyville and Tyler (TX) round out the top five. Snow (UT), ranked sixth, is the only 1-0 team ranked in the top 10. East Mississippi, Butler, Georgia Military and Northwest Mississippi finish out the top 10.
Butler will make the short trip to face #3 Hutchinson on Saturday, setting up a matchup of top 10 teams. The Blue Dragons ended a 23-game losing streak to the Grizzlies last year with a 35-26 win in El Dorado and went on to win the Region VI title for the first time since 1995. Kickoff from Gowans Stadium is at 7:00 p.m.
