Athletic Academic Coordinator - Shannon Hurt
As Butler’s Athletic Academic
Coordinator, Shannon Hurt works with student-athletes to help them
achieve their academic goals.
She works with all nine athletic teams at Butler, helping student
athletes enroll in classes, coordinating study halls, and serving
as a liaison between the athletic department and Butler faculty by
monitoring student-athlete’s academic progress through grade
checks. She also coordinates the peer tutoring program at Butler
and works with student-athletes to help them meet all academic
eligibility requirements to transfer to four-year schools.
Hurt, who is a Butler County native, earned her associate’s
degree at Butler and her bachelor’s degree at Wichita State
University. Hurt is a member of the National Association Academic
Advisors for Athletics. She started her career in academic advising
as a student tutor for two years as a student at Butler. At Wichita
State, she was an assistant in the athletic student services
department. She also spent a year working in the athletic-academic
center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge before
returning to be an advisor at Butler.
Hurt lives in Wichita with her husband, Jeremy, and two sons,
Jaxson and Maverick.
